on Aerosmith, 1976 Jun 18
This was the ROCKS tour. We had front row, center, main floor tickets. I remember standing on my seat and Steven Tyer was standing directly in front of me. It was unbelievable. The song from that show that stands out in my mind was "Lord of the Thighs". I remember they had 2 humongous fans on either side of the stage, blowing on the band.
I was there....
on Elton John, 1973 Oct 11
what a show....the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour...
question
on Joe Walsh, 1975 Feb 23
Was this the show that BLOODROCK opened for Barnstorm?
Mistake
on Ted Nugent, 1976 Oct 20
The Ted Nugent/Mahogany Rush show was at the Coliseum - not the north hall
Question
on Wishbone Ash / Vinegar Joe, 1973 Apr 27
Was this the show that "Vinegar Joe" warmed up for Wishbone Ash? I think it was. I was there. Wishbone Ash had just released "Wishbone Four"
on Mott the Hoople, 1974 Apr 12
I remember this concert. I was a junior in high school. The concert was on a Friday night. I didn't go but I never forgot it becase this was the only time Mott the Hoople came to Memphis. Queen warmed up for them, their first album tour. Interestingly, I graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in 1975 and our graduation ceremony took place at Ellis Auditorium South Hall. Because of this, they canceled The Ian Hunter Band, who was supposed to play in the North Hall that same night!
on Little Feat, 2009 Jul 18
Saw the Cardinals baseball game on the 17th, Little Feat on the 18th, then another Cardinals game on the 19th. Great weekend!
Halloween Night!
on KISS / Atlanta Rhythm Section, 1975 Oct 31
Everybody was dressed up like KISS at this concert. Great show.
on Johnny Winter, 1974 Dec 7
We had front row seats for this concert. Great show! Johnny was dressed like the picture on the front of his "Captured Live" LP.
Another great show!
on Johnny Winter with Muddy Waters, 1976 May 9
Ellis Auditorium was my favorite place in Memphis for concerts. The Acoustics were great and wasn't so huge like most arenas. This was another one of my front row concerts. Johnny and Muddy played together on stage.
Concert info
on Montrose, 1974 Mar 22
Humble Pie did two shows, March 22, and 23. On March 22, it was Humble Pie and Montrose. On March 23, it was Humble Pie and Spooky tooth. I also attended the Spooky Tooth show. Mick Jones (of Foreigner fame) played guitar for Spooky Tooth.
MISTAKE?
on Ted Nugent, 1976 Oct 20
No, that was a different show. I was at that show too. This show was at the North Hall. I had 2nd row seats (section AA), center section. The ""FREE FOR ALL" tour (see photo of ticket stub above).
An FYI......
on Todd Rundgren, 1977 Apr 27
The pictures above did not come from this particular show. I took them in 1973 at the Memphis State University Ballroom. Todd was in support of his "A Wizard, A True Star" Lp. I just put the pictures here because i wasn't able to find my ticket stuff for the 1973 show so I'm not sure of the date, but I remember the year. Fantastic show. He played for FOUR STRAIGHT HOURS. Everything you can think of. I got to meet the band after the show. There were no seats in the room - everybody had to sit on the floor or stand up.
I've added pix
on Humble Pie / Montrose / Spooky Tooth, 1974 Mar 22
We were on the front row at Ellis Auditorium North Hall for this show. The pictures i've posted are of Steve Marriot and the Pie (top) and Spooky Tooth on the bottom. They were taken with a Kodak pocket instamatic camera. They have faded badly over the years. Sorry.
Nugent PIX
on Ted Nugent / Mahogany Rush / Foreigner, 1977 Jul 3
I'm not 100% sure if these pix came from the '77 concert because I saw Nugent twice at the Mid-South Coliseum back then, but I decided to post them here anyway because I thought all you nostalgia buffs would like to see them. As you can tell, either I had a bad roll of film or the people who developed them did a lousy job by over-exposing them. Every picture on that roll look like half a picture/half a negative. I really hated it too because we were on the front row, directly in front of the Nuge, which were hard to get, even in the 70s.
The Nuge
on Ted Nugent, 1980 Jul 1
I'm not 100% sure if these pix came from this concert because I saw Nugent three times at the Mid-South Coliseum back then, but I decided to post them here anyway because I thought all you nostalgia buffs would like to see them. As you can tell, either I had a bad roll of film or the people who developed them did a lousy job. Every picture on that roll look like half a picture/half a negative. I really hated it too because we were on the front row, directly in front of the Nuge, which were hard to get, even in the 70s.
WOW! Blackfoot
on Ted Nugent, 1981 Jul 21
I didn't see this one. I wasn't even aware that Blackfoot played the Coliseum. I saw Blackfoot back in the 70s at some new club in Memphis. I can't even remember the name of it. It was like a big tin building. The acoustics were HORRIBLE. I wasn't aware they played the Coliseum, else I would have been there!
HAHA!
on Humble Pie / Montrose / Spooky Tooth, 1974 Mar 22
Yeah i'll never forget this show. This was being billed as Humble Pie's "farewell" tour. I wish I could have seen the one that Montrose opened up for, but i had to work. I had to settle for the Spooky Tooth show. It was great but I had fallen in love with the 1st Montrose album and wanted really bad to hear "Bad Motorscooter" done live.
Another great classic!
on Slade / Blue Oyster Cult, 1973 Sep 28
As you can tell from the photos above, we had front row seats to this show. The only camera i had back then was a Kodak pocket instamatic (with a flash cube), so the pictures weren't that great and they have faded over the years. I got lucky with the Dave Hill photo above though, check it out!. Mr. Spaceman!
Great show!
on Lynyrd Skynyrd / Golden Earring, 1975 Apr 12
This was a really great show. I remember Golden Earring was warm up to Skynyrd, in support of their "Switch" LP. I saw G.E. about 4 times back then, and all 4 times they were the warm up band. Foghat did that a lot too.
WOW!
on Trapeze, 1973 Jun 3
I remember this show, although I wasn't in attendance. A picture taken from this show at the Shell was used on the Trapeze LP, "You Are the Music, We're Just The Band". Several people have pointed out their picture in the crowd. I wish I had gone.
