I think admission was 2/6d. I was walking on Whitworth Street towards UMIST with a friend, Eddie Hilton when a car stopped in front of us. Jimmy Page was inside with John Paul Jones. Jimmy shouted a request for directions to the UMIST building. They were virtually there.
Can't remember who played the warm up set. Around 50 people maximum were present at this time.
LZ came on at around 9.30 and the crowd swelled to around 80. The band played their entire 1st album that must have been out about 2/3 weeks. In between numbers Robert Plant mentioned The Twisted Wheel Club in Manchester and namechecked Lee Dorsey, Arthur Conley and Garnet Mimms.
The set was near flawless and it was obvious that they were destined for greatness. There was never a shred of doubt.
