Van Halen / Nazereth
Boston was the headliner for this show. They were really hot right about then. Nobody had heard of Van Halen yet in our market. They were not on the radio yet, and they played second of the five bands. The line-up was Granati brothers, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, and finally Boston. Also, this entry used to say that Nazereth played, but they weren't there. I also saw another site that said Sammy Hagar was on the bill, but he wasn't.
At this show, there were many entrances around the dome, and I was milling around one of them with a few hundred people waiting to get in. I was really frustrated with waiting, so I remembered this Country Joe and the Fish record, so I yelled, "Gimme an F!" I couldn't believe it, but they must have been just as frustrated, so a lot of people yelled, "F"! So, I yelled, "Gimme a U!" "U!" a lot more people hollered. "Gimme a C!" This time everybody yelled, "C!" "Gimme a K!" "K!" thundered the answer. "What's that spell?" I yelled. "Fuck!" they shouted. "What's that spell?" "Fuck!" "What's that spell?" "Fuck!" I did it a few more times, and finally quit, totally freaked out that I had hundreds of people screaming "fuck" at the top of their lungs. I saw the biggest joint I have ever seen on the field on the "Mardi Grass" at that concert. This guy was blowing shotguns with it, and the people who got them would just kind of fall over.
Louisiana's First Day Of Rock and Roll
I was at this concert. Sammy Hagar and Nazareth WERE there. I have pictures of all the bands.
Van Halen was on the radio, all the time. This concert was promoting their 2nd album.
I met my future husband at this concert. We are now grandparents.
