4,001 holes in Blackburn Lancashire
Fourteen years old. My Grandad dropped me off outside the Esoldo, Capstan Full Strength burning sweetly. I walked into King Georges Hall having looked at my ticket in my terraced house every day for weeks hoping I would be transformed.
I was. The loudest, most beautiful shock I'd ever had. Never seen a mirror ball, and never could have imagined the shimmer of Space Oddity. Wondered at the naive poetry of 'Freecloud', the subtle thunder of Ronson and the new cynicism of Alladin Sane. Costume ch ch ch changes - an old world falling away. Grandad didn't know who he was picking up to go home. Thanks David. Thanks Grandad.
