Come On Jimmi
Jimmy was to play a great set, the venue was packed. The capacity of that small back function room has now been extended and also having lost all of its atmosphere is licenced today for only 200 people.
Back in the SIXTIES the door was not closed until the room was bursting, the Promoter would have two clickers counting the people in, one recorded the actual numbers in and the other would click on every three so the head count would be down so the Hotel owner would not know how many were actually in.
For those of you out there that can remember the Bromel club, if you were unable to get into the venue, you didnt miss out on the music, as the windows were frequently opened to let fresh air in. The windows backed onto the lawned area and the gardens. On this night the gardens were overewelmed by punters that were unable to get in. This was the begining of the Summer of Love and many were in the garden practicing in tune with the music. (Not the warmest of nights out there)
Jimmi's set was up to his usual standard, albeit he was restricted by the low ceilings and frequently bashed his guitar on the ceiling, however, not distracting from his usual antics.
The local Police, were unable to get to grips with the venue as the few PLODS that were about at kicking out time were either in their Panda Cars or on their Noddy Bikes and just let the fans by without too much attention, other than "Keep the voices down" The lack of Buses meant that many of the fans left and had to walk home, taking time to relate to the evenings performance by singing out loud the lyrics and reinactments of Jimmi's stage performance.
I was very fortunate and became friendly with the band and they came to see me performing at the THe Ship Hotel in New Romney, when they came down to stay at Greatstone. Jimmi on this occassion downed a couple of Bottles of Vodka to the amazement of the hotel owner Mr Jagger ( Not Mick's Dad)
I saw Jimmi on about 20 occassions including the Isle of White, Majorca and the BIG One. Like most of his fans I hit the MP3 player with those great vibes as I hit the highways.
Rgds and Thanks Jimmi for the music Carl
